{"id":73,"date":"2023-01-05T16:12:33","date_gmt":"2023-01-05T14:12:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staging.commspolicy.africa\/?page_id=73"},"modified":"2023-01-05T16:12:33","modified_gmt":"2023-01-05T14:12:33","slug":"what-ive-achieved","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/staging.commspolicy.africa\/?page_id=73","title":{"rendered":"What I&#8217;ve achieved"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Working with, and leading teams over the years, I&#8217;m pleased to have worked towards:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNESCO Member States adopting the Windhoek+30 Declaration on Information as a Public Good (2021).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same states adopting the frame of Internet Universality which upholds the &#8220;ROAM principles&#8221; for digital development: human Rights, Openness, Accessibility and Multi-stakeholder governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UN Plan of Action on Safety of Journalists and Issue of Impunity reach ten years of implementation in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UN&#8217;s recognition of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists (2 November).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acceptance by the UN and UNESCO of the International Day for Universal Access to Information (28 September), and the Global Media and Information Literacy Week (each end of October).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inclusion of safety of journalists among the indicators of progress (or not) under the Sustainable Development Goals (under target 16.10: &#8220;public access to information and fundamental freedoms&#8221;), and continued awareness raising about the results of this monitoring<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Rhodes University, South Africa, championing the bid to host the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> World Journalism Education Congress in July 2010, and overseeing the organisation and fundraising of the actual event.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conceptualising and fundraising in order to consolidate the spatially fragmented components of the School of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University into a striking new facility, called the Africa Media Matrix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building the annual Highway Africa conference at Rhodes University that linked African journalists and j-schools to engage with digital issues; creating the Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Leadership; and organising for Rhodes University to acquire Grocott&#8217;s Mail newspaper as a teaching vehicle and public service. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Working with, and leading teams over the years, I&#8217;m pleased to have worked towards: UNESCO Member States adopting the Windhoek+30 Declaration on Information as a Public Good (2021).
